Needless to say, this was a fantastic series, even though the Chiefs came up short. Game one was probably one of the best CJHL games played in some time with stellar goaltending at both ends, ending a 2-1 loss. Game two went to the Icemen with some penalty trouble hurting the Chiefs. Game three showed the Chief's desire, leaving everything on the table and gaining a 5-1 win, but having many key injuries as a result of this determination. Game four was fantastic as well with the game still in doubt until the 12 minute mark of the third period with the score still 1-0 for Wetaskiwin. One of the nagging injuries was to our goaltender, Nolan Kruizenga, who had to leave the game after the icemen's second goal. This loss proved to be too much to recover.
The saving grace was that both teams went to Provincials in St. Paul. The chiefs won the first game against the eventual Silver medallists, Cochrane Generals. the next game was against the eventual gold medalists, Wainwright Bisons which exposed our defense towards a loss. The last game required the Chiefs to win a very lopsided game against the Fairview Flyers. So much emphasis was put on scoring and again left our defense and goaltenders in vulnerable positions.
Although the Provincials didn't prove as successful, our team represented the CJHL and Beaumont very well. The board is very proud of this team regardless and want to thank our fans for being supportive throughout the year.
